FRIDAY JANUARY 20
The inaugural ceremony of the Year of Culture of Bergamo and Brescia will be held simultaneously at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo and at the Teatro Grande in Brescia, connected to each other. It will be a single ceremony with two stages broadcasted live on television.
SATURDAY JANUARY 21
Thousands of people will pour into the squares and streets of Bergamo and Brescia to attend a variety of art and entertainment events that will transform the two city centers into widespread and open-air stages.
In the morning and in the first part of the afternoon the program will be the same in the two cities. At 11, thousands of primary school children will sing a hymn written by authors from Bergamo and Brescia, dedicated to Bergamo Brescia, the Italian capital of Culture. The anthem of the Capital will be performed simultaneously in Piazza della Loggia in Brescia and in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Bergamo.
In the afternoon, from 4 pm, the event will move to the historic center for the great Parade of 4 parades. Four processions characterized by the colors of the Bergamo Brescia logo – each made up of thousands of people – will parade from 4 cardinal points of the two cities to converge, respectively, towards Piazza della Loggia, in Brescia, and Piazza Vittorio Veneto, in Bergamo. The popular processions will also be accompanied by dancers and musical bands and will end, once gathered in the two squares, with the execution by the musicians of the Italian anthem.
Subsequently, the two events will diverge, in a specific way for each city.
In Brescia, celebrations in the square
Under the banner of community and the collectivity, the second part of the day in Brescia will be a “choral” and public event, in every sense.
From 17.30 to 19 in Piazza della Loggia there will be a Gala-Concert with the participation of some of the main artists of the Brescia music scene. Hosted by Ambra Angiolini, Brescian by adoption, the event will take place on a large stage scenically integrated into the “Loggia” overlooking the square. Important Brescian artists such as Francesco Renga, Fausto Leali, Frah Quintale, ComaCose, Mr. Rain and others to be defined will perform. There will also be other illustrious citizens of Brescia, personalities from the world of entertainment and culture.
In the evening, starting at 20, the party will continue in Piazza Vittoria, transformed into a monumental installation of images, lights and music with a multimedia aquarium theme and crowned by a show of aerial dances, fireworks and widespread video projections . The installation will also be viewable on Sunday 22 January.
For the whole day Bergamo and Brescia will open the doors of all places of culture. Exceptionally theatres, museums, cinemas, libraries, foundations and many other entities will be open to the public and will host exhibitions, conferences and exhibitions. A moment of widespread and pervasive culture that will officially inaugurate the year of the Italian Capital of Culture 2023.
So if you are thinking about what to do in 2023? Come and join the year-long party at Brescia…
